A super-mini Q&A with D.I.S.C.I.P.L.E (Rodney Disciple Ahenkan)

SophiaCharles : When did you start to sing?

D.I.S.C.I.P.L.E : I never thought I perform. I began to make songs by the age 15 and I started at my church.

SophiaCharles : Can you tell us about the background of the D.I.S.C.I.P.L.E?

D.I.S.C.I.P.L.E : I was never into music in my early stages of my teenage years but I was always into writing poetry because I went through alot of things as a child and I found poetry as a way to express my feelings.
One day I was listening to a song called "Let It Go" by Kirk Franklin and he was talking about his life and by then I had just given my life to Christ so it was great to hear one of my musical influences talk about something so dear.
From there I decided to write about my life in the form of a poem and got some friends to read, alot of them really liked it - so i toyed with the idea of making it into a song.
I learned how to make music with a software and from there my debut song called "Hope On the other side" was born, but i never had the desire to perform in public - I was satisfied with creating a song...
Any way, my youth group from church was organising an event and there was a free slot for a performance and out of instinct I put my name down for it. I then became the opening act for that night. With my nerves bundled up I did the song and alot of people were crying and my mum was actually in the audience and I didnt know she would be there.
From there I was encouraged to write more. Many people prophesied that I would go far and wide for the art of music so I held on to that and continued to write and compose.
Through that I taught myself how to play piano so I could further my skills and by the age of 17 I had about 14 songs, I just kept writing and writing..
I started to get a few places to perform at but nothing major really came through til recently.
Half way through my experience I came to the realisation that What I was doing was great but I needed to find the real reason as why I was doing it. From there I turned my music from "Performing" to "Ministry".
I found that performing only made myself happy and while I was doing that I was trying to make everyone else happy but some of my songs wont make everyone happy because everyone had different tastes. I came up with this motive and that was to "Bless at least one person in a song" that way I would keep humble in all I do and really know that I was impacting lives
Since my mentality switch I have outreached to so many High schools, churches, youth events, festivals, bars, etc
And with my craft, I learned to broaden my talents.
I have incorporated my poetry into my ministry [which is just me rapping with no music], I am currently sharing sermons that weave through my music and now training others to do so under the ministry. Now I am doing online notes from things I study in the bible to help others out, so this is not just a music thing.
Right now I am working on an album called "in their Shoes" and it talks about the different people in the bible and how I relate to them in the modern day and with that my mission is to bless people from the earliest age of 12 right through people 60+
This album has many styles from rock, pop, electronic, ballads, spoken word, jazz fusion, R&B, hip hop and world music - so Im hoping to bless people through that.
